U.S. Marine Corps Sergeant Kirstie Ennis nearly died when the CH-53D helicopter she was flying in as an aerial gunner crash landed in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan in June of 2012.
The accident broke her left ankle and caused severe damage to her leg, tore her rotator cuff and labrum, injured the cervical discs of her spine, shattered her jaw, and caused severe facial lacerations, a traumatic brain injury and post traumatic stress disorder.
Ennis was combat meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Ennis, who was 17 when she enlisted out of Florida in 2008, thus began her long, debilitating road to recovery, enduring more than three dozen surgeries as she learned how to walk and talk again.
In November of 2015, her left leg was amputated below the knee.

Washington State: Good Guys With Guns Takes Out Shooter at Walmart…
An armed man is dead and two others are injured after a shooting at the Walmart in Tumwater about 5 p.m.
Laura Wohl, spokeswoman for the Tumwater Police Department, said an adult man who had been shot was flown to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. He was shot while the armed suspect tried to carjack his vehicle, Wohl said.
A person with his own weapon shot the suspect outside Walmart. That man was still on the scene about 7 p.m. and was being interviewed by law enforcement.
It is not clear whether the shooter ever entered the store, despite customers’ reports that he had, Wohl said. It also was not clear whether shots were fired inside the store, she said. It’s possible customers heard a gun being fired outside. Police do know no one inside the store was injured.

I have always been fascinated by the Iver Johnson revolvers. They were so far ahead of their time in so many ways. Drop safe transfer bar firing pin? Yup, about 70 years before Bill Ruger. Trigger safety? About 80 years before Gaston Glock. Wonderful Wife inherited one from her dad that was non-functional. It was, in fact, found while fishing in a roadside pond. The serial numbers had been removed as had the sights. He called it his Bonnie and Clyde gun. I picked up the little brother (.32 vs .38 Smith & Wesson) that is in a lot better condition than his although missing quite the same level of history.

For example, the number one recommendation was to not commit suicide. While this is someone trite it is still true. Most gun related deaths in the US, about 63%, are from suicide. Now, will banning firearms prevent suicide?

Remembering D-Day 74 Years Later
Every year when June 6th rolls around I take some time with my family to remember D-Day and the awesome sacrifice made by so many to keep the world free.
The Nazi jackboot had torn across Europe with a fury, leaving countless scores of dead in it’s wake. The only way to stop it was a combined seaborne and airborne invasion by Allied Forces.
As a Military Historian, I always tell people (in the spirit of the great Paul Harvey) the “rest of the story” regarding D-Day is the two PRECEDING Amphibious Assaults in North Africa in 1942 with Operation Torch and Sicily and Italy in 1943 with Operations Husky and Avalanche. Without these landings, D-day would have been an unmitigated disaster.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Memphis Police have identified two suspects that were killed during the apparent burglary of an East Memphis home.
Azell Witherspoon, 28 and Demond Robinson, 17, were both killed during the alleged attempt.
The shooter will not face charges, police told FOX13.
Less than 24 hours after the shooting, FOX13 spoke with the shooter and resident, who didn’t want to be identified. He credits quick-thinking for his safety.

Florida: CCW Permit Holder Shoots Felon Who Threatened People With Firearm…
CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A convicted felon was arrested for threatening two men with a gun at a Cape Coral business.
Cape Coral Police say Kevin Bruzos, a convicted felon, had threatened a person with a firearm. Bruzos left, then returned and threatened the same person with the firearm again as well as a second person who was legally licensed to carry a concealed firearm. The concealed carry permitted person ordered Bruzos to drop his gun. Bruzos did not drop it and instead aimed it at the permitted person, who in turn defended himself and shot Bruzos.
Kevin Bruzos is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
The concealed carry permit holder who was threatened by Bruzos and shot him in self-defense is not facing any charges.

A search of a storage facility connected to motorcycle a gang in Waterloo, Sydney last Thursday uncovered drugs, $2.75 million in cash as well as four homemade submachine guns which are pictured above.
