Pro-gun Senators are emboldened to fight for 2A Rights!

To recap:  Democrats like Charles Schumer and Dianne Feinstein are teaming up with sell-out Republicans to enact a package which we call “The Second Amendment Infringement Act of 2018.”

That could be enacted as one bill or three bills, but it contains all of the elements for politicians who want to effectively repeal the Second Amendment, but don’t have the 3/4 of the states to change the Constitution. (See the accompanying chart.)

But as I suggested above, our grassroots support is emboldening pro-gun Senators on the Hill.  According to the article that I cited earlier:

An attempt to bring up that bill with dispatch failed when Sen. Mike Lee, a Utah Republican, blocked a bid by GOP leadership to pass it without debate.

Kudos to Senator Lee and the several other pro-gun Senators who are backing him!

Now that the Senate…

NRA Under More Pressure

For some reason, the liberals keep looking at a duck, but only see a goat.

The Lone Cactus

The NRA has become a scapegoat of sorts because of the mass school shooting in Florida. Though the group has some 14 million members currently, they are starting to feel the heat more with this particular school shooting than the others. Why? Probably because the students themselves are vocal about it. And it seems that while lawmakers are listening, doing something is a far reach from listening.

In Tallahassee, the Florida state legislature didn’t even want to listen, overwhelmingly voting down a proposal to just consider banning AR-15’s and other automatic weapons. The students have called out the NRA, which is really strange, but has become their target. In actuality, the NRA probably does more to save lives than any other organization (including congress) when it comes to guns. Let me explain!

The NRA, of which I’ve never been a member…just to make that distinction… spends an awful lot of…

Is Arming Yourself a Rational Response to a Mass Public Shooting?

Police are, AFTER THE FACT.
Don’t forget that there are many high quality used firearms at gun shops. If properly licensed/permit holders, people can find outstanding guns with holster wear and very little use, such as police revolvers, since the semi-auto craze took hold, and the revolvers turned in, are usually cosmetically worn but real sweet shooting and accurate. Another thing is that in hand-to-hand combat, the revolver is able to be used as brass knuckles, with the crane opening browlines and allowing blood to go into an aggressor’s eyes. When the police finally arrive, identify yourself and let them know what happened. Understand this: If you hear the words, “PO-LEECE! DON’T MOVE!”, don’t move. If you are ordered to, “DROP THE GUN!”, drop it from your hand. An old revolver has little worry of another scratch on the surface.

Gun Culture 2.0

I haven’t had time to write this up yet, but an underlying theme in academic studies of guns is that carrying a concealed firearm (and in some cases even owning one) is not a rational decision for most Americans under most circumstances. “Rational” here understood in the classical economic sense of maximizing benefits and minimizing costs.

Even less rational, then, would be arming yourself for self-defense under extraordinary or exceptional circumstances. Like after a mass public shooting. And yet we see interest in concealed carry spike after mass public shootings time and again.

John R. Lott, Concealed Carry Permit Holders Across the United States: 2017, p. 27.

The official statistician of the gun rights movement, John Lott, is not alone in suggesting this connection. For my Sociology of Guns seminar last week we read an article that systematically connected high profile mass public shootings with concealed carry permit…

Survey: Americans Blame School Shooting on Government, Not Guns

Freedom Is Just Another Word...

The latest Rasmussen Reports survey shows that Americans blame government rather than guns for the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting.

According to Rasmussen, 54% of Americans believe government failure is to “blame for the mass shooting.” Only 33% of Americans blame guns. Eleven percent of Americans say they are unsure what contributed to the occurrence of the mass shooting.

Dems: Hey, Let’s Ban All Semi-Automatics

Freedom Is Just Another Word...

2015-12-07-749f5422_large

Democrats have always hated the Second Amendment. When they were the party of slavery and Jim Crow, they invented gun control to keep firearms out of the hands of blacks. Over the past few decades, as Democrats have increasingly moved hard left, the party’s position on the Second Amendment has become less about race than an ever-growing vitriolic anti-gun animosity. Once again, exploiting the recent Parkland atrocity, Democrats are going all-in by declaring themselves the party for “banning guns.”

On Monday, 156 House Democrats led by Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) introduced their latest anti-gun measure. The legislation, dressed up with the faulty language of “assault weapons” and “weapons of war,” was marketed as “sensible policy.” Of course, Democrat “common sense” is a non sequitur. In introducing the bill, Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) insisted, “Assault weapons were made for one purpose. They are designed to kill as many people as possible in…

Without the Second Amendment the First Amendment to the Constitution doesn’t matter.

Indeed their stance has always been to keep blacks beholding to them while many are still pissed that they still aren’t on the plantation picking cotton.

I some parts of the South in America they are still viewed as sub-human primates and little else.

God forbid they should have been able to do that.

It was their constitutional right to do so.

Let’s Be Honest, The Latest Gun Control Bill Is Pretty Much A Total Ban On Firearms …..

Freedom Is Just Another Word...

House Democrats have introduced a bill banning semi-automatic firearms in the wake of the Feb. 14 shooting at a high school in Parkland, Fla.

Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., announced Monday he is introducing the Assault Weapons Ban of 2018. More than 150 Democrats have signed on in support of the legislation, Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., said.

[…]

The bill prohibits the “sale, transfer, production, and importation” of semi-automatic rifles and pistols that can hold a detachable magazine, as well as semi-automatic rifles with a magazine that can hold more than 10 rounds. Additionally, the legislation bans the sale, transfer, production, and importation of semi-automatic shotguns with features such as a pistol grip or detachable stock, and ammunition feeding devices that can hold more than 10 rounds.

Cicilline’s legislation names 205 specific firearms that are prohibited, including the AK-47 and AR-15.

“Assault weapons were made for one purpose,” Cicilline said in…

How Often Does the Media Portray Gun Owners as Normal?

I think I’m pretty normal.
Me too.
(PS: I passed psychological exams.)

Gun Culture 2.0

I was contacted today by a freelance journalist for The New York Times who sometimes writes about gun issues. His request:

One of the editors asked me to come up with story ideas about guns so I am reaching out to bloggers and experts like you to see if you have any thoughts on what stories the media might be missing. Are there, in your opinion, important issues or perspectives about the gun debate that the media is not reporting?

I responded at some length, but the gist of my response was:

If there is resistance to efforts to restrict firearms, it is due not just to the NRA throwing its weight around. It is also due to the fact that guns and gun owners are by and large normal, not pathological.

Him:

Thank you very much for your response, but I am not sure if this is anything new…

Adirondack Hot Tenting & Ice Fishing

Nature Into Action

We examined the depth maps, wind direction, water flow, snowmobile trail and any notes worth consideration available on the interweb and found a spot very much to our liking. It even included an Adirondack lean-to.

Excited, I printed off my  winter check list and laid out the gear needed for an Adirondack Adventure!

The destination chosen provided both good fishing reports and the wilderness experience we were after.

Upon arrival, I was expecting to pull my sled 2 hours into camp over a foot of light powder snow but instead sat down comfortably in a sled pulled by a SnowDog Machine and held the rope of my third sled that got pulled behind with ease.

A friend had purchased the SnowDog for both work and pleasure.  He explained that it’s a fraction of the price of a snowmobile, doesn’t need to be registered or insured and can be picked…

The regulation of guns in Russia is categorised as restrictive
In Russia, the right to private gun ownership is not guaranteed by law
In Russia, civilians are not allowed to possess automatic firearms and handguns
In Russia, only licensed gun owners may lawfully acquire, possess or transfer a firearm or ammunition
Applicants for a gun owner’s licence in Russia are required to establish a genuine reason to possess a firearm, for example hunting, target shooting, collection, personal protection, security

Yes, 18-Year-Olds Can Own Guns, And They Do

Gun Culture 2.0

I have posted a number of times before about the Pew Research Center’s 2017 survey of gun owners. The report, America’s Complex Relationship With Guns, ought to be studied closely by all involved in the current wave of our ongoing debates over guns in American society.

As people debate whether to raise the minimum age for purchasing rifles from 18 to 21, it might be helpful to know that the average age at which current or past gun owners first got their own gun is 22. But the average age for those who grew up with guns in their households is 20, and looking just at men the average age drops to 19.

Screen cap of Pew Research Center report, p. 25.

Pew has not yet released the raw data, so we don’t know the average age of first gun acquisition for men who grew up in households with…

Jack Cashill: “Incompetence Wasn’t The Problem in Broward County”…

Centinel2012

It doesn’t come as a surprise to find the most appropriate discussion headline behind the Parkland, Florida school shooting did not come from an MSM news article, but rather from a person who understands the origin of the issue.

Writer Jack Cashill publishes an article in American Thinker today appropriately titled: “Incompetence Wasn’t The Problem in Broward County“.  Mr. Cashill, a person adept at tracing complex issues to their truthful origin, has it entirely correct.

Nothing about the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School was based on structural incompetence; the horrific event was an entirely predictable outcome of intentionally followed policy.

In April of 2012 Jesse Jackson began to promote the principle: “we must stop suspending our students”. Three months later, in July of 2012, President Obama signed an executive order establishing…

The deputies were YELLOW.
Best comment: “The only real lesson from Parkland: The government cannot protect you and isn’t even trying. Self-defense is a right.”
If the president would have authorized Constitutional Carry, some kids might be alive today. That’s a cold hard fact that the president should carry with him forever.
The Broward sheriff, must get the bum’s rush, out the door, and into the gutter. Alone, okay, let’s say the deputy waited for backup. Then all four, should have formed a firing team, and gone into the school. Backup, as a rule, is up to the officer on the scene to call or, for dispatch, knowing a need for backup, automatically dispatches same. When women came onto the job, they were forever calling for backup and we questioned the fitness of the females to be on patrol. I lucked out, my female partner was a wild woman who fought like a man. She was a good partner. She grew up in a family of boys as the only girl. She was strong, tough, and smart. She had no fear. People said that I growled, and then they said that she growled also. The Broward deputies, only clucked.

…And don’t you ever forget it.

Prohibition NEVER Works: Banning Alcohol Didn’t Work, And Banning Guns Won’t Either

PUMABydesign001's Blog

SHTF Plan by Mac Slavo

They say those who don’t pay attention to history are destined to repeat it.  It seems like even though humans have paid attention, they somehow think the same things that failed in the past, like prohibition and communism, will magically work now.

Alcohol kills almost three times as many Americans as guns. Last year, about 33,000 people died of gunshot-related injuries, including those who shot themselves; suicide. When removing those who killed themselves only (again, suicide), that number drops to 15,549, by even anti-gun activists estimates.  To put that in perspective, this year’s flu and the vaccine to “prevent” said flu is more deadly. So far, it’s been killing an estimated 4,000 Americans per week. That’s roughly 16,000 per month, a number already higher than last year’s total “gun deaths” which include justified homicides (or self-defense.) You don’t have to be a genius at…

The Southern Cross Pointer Stars.

There are two useful very bright stars, alpha Centauri and Agena, in the Southern Celestial hemisphere. They are circumpolar as they are near to the Southern Celestial pole. They are seen late night in February, all night in May, early night in September.

Inhabitants of Southern hemisphere need only to identifyAgena, Alpha Centauri (pointer stars) and Acherna in the anticlockwise direction (all at 60° South declination) to find the Southern Celestial pole. Acherna is 60 degree from the pair (alpha Centauri, Agena) and is on the opposite side across the Southern Celestial Pole.

Extending the line alpha Centauri-Agena by 8 degrees reaches the Southern Cross Constellation. Then turning clockwise by 50 degrees and…

ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, NPR – take your pick, they’re all corrupt and their common mission is the take down of President Donald Trump. Just when we thought these gutless cowards had gone as low as they could CNN found a way to get even deeper into the swamp scum.

Fresh off the Parkland, FL massacre CNN organized an event they advertised as a “Town Hall Meeting.” They invited grieving students, their parents and teachers with only a couple of requirements: stick to our script and shout down the opposition as often as possible. This is the same tactic being employed on college campuses across the nation to shut down conservative voices.

The left’s shameful exploitation of our youth, and the complete politicization of this horrific assault was predictable and expected. Democrats, and the media, have no interest in pursuing ideas that could limit these mass shootings unless the…

My Choice is Made

American Patriot Reality Check

I have been shooting guns 54 years of my life. Perhaps a little longer. I started shooting when I was around 6, and owned my first “gun”, a BB gun (a Daisy “rifle” spring operated gun) at 6. My father, was a marine. Before he allowed me to use the gun, I had to learn gun safety.

When I was 8 I received a .22LR. Somewhere in there we had a .30 cal ball muzzle loader that has a flintlock and pan.

When my wife and I were married she bought me a Marlin .30-30 and I purchased her a Marline .22 tube fed long rifle.

Over the years, between us, the wife and I, we’ve owned over a dozen weapons of various sizes, types, calibers and shot guns, sling shots, built bows (and arrows) everything from Indian bows backed with rawhide using “jello” (gelatin) as glue to wooden and…

The Arming of Mr. Hand

The Tactical Hermit

So President Trump has suggested Arming “some” Teachersas a way to stop mass shootings in schools. Later on, he clarified his remark:

“I never said ‘give teachers guns’ like was stated on Fake News @CNN & @NBC. What I said was to look at the possibility of giving ‘concealed guns to adept teachers with military or special training experience- only the best.”

So how about this ideal? Are there any current examples around the world of teachers and staff being armed and if so, how successful is it?

Israel, by far, is the most shining example that having ARMED TEACHERS AND STAFF in schools WORKS.

So let’s unpack this ideal of ARMING teachers and staff.

First off, I do not believe it should be mandatory in any capacity. Let the teachers who feel they are up to the task, volunteer. After that they are going to need…

Apparently the wing nuts in the Oregon legislature do not believe in due process.

Yep, in the land of The Twilight zone,an individual can be essentially found guilty without a hearing or a trial.

It would be an excellent idea if all ideas from the left, no matter state of origin, be filtered by the Twilight Zone so that time won’t be wasted on more useless legislation.

Oregon may as well annex Northern California they of like minds.

Let them have Pelosi while they are at it.

Oregon legislature passes new gun control bill.

“Oregon is taking the lead to protect communities from gun violence,” said Robin Lloyd, government affairs director for Giffords’ nonprofit organization that seeks to save lives from gun violence.

How did the group obtain 501-3c status, i.e tax exempt when the specifically are targeting the Second amendment?

2A News: Tougher Background Checks?

The Tactical Hermit

This week, even DJT was talking publically about “tougher” background checks for potential gun-buyers.

“Tougher?” How?

Of course, we are never told.

But, at least some of us ask:

Should NICS now have access to prescription drug records of any American who wants to buy a gun, a change that will effectively shred HIPPA?

In NYS, they already do! NY State Police stormed the home of a duly-licensed NYS CCW Permit holder last year and seized all his guns. He had a single prescription for lorazepam (Ativan). It was prescribed to him briefly treat anxiety after his mother died. That State never revealed how they knew about the medicine.

Policy and Consequence – Broward County Sheriff Union President Notes “Promise Program” and Consequences…

Centinel2012

Last night Broward County Sheriff Union President Jeff Bell appeared on Laura Ingraham’s Fox News show to discuss the Broward County deputy response to the Parkland Florida school shooting.  [The key segment is at 05:00 prompted below]

Within the conversation Mr. Bell points to the 2013 Broward County School Board policy known as the “Promise Program“.  The Promise Program is the collaborative policy between all county officials the school superintendent, school board and law enforcement that instructs officers to not arrest high school students.

This policy sits at the center of understanding why Nikolas Cruz was not intercepted by law enforcement.  WATCH (prompted – just hit play):

.

A Broward County School Police Officer must: carry a political hat and be able to intercept anti-social behavior (ie. filter through “The Promise Program“); modify his/her…

Sunday snicker

Just Cruisin 2

A new pastor moved into town and went out one Saturday to visit his parishioners. All went well until he came to one house. It was obvious that someone was home, but no one came to the door even after he had knocked several times. Finally, he took out his card, wrote on the back “Revelation 3:20 ” and stuck it in the door.

The next day, as he was counting the offering he found his card in the collection plate. Below his message was notation “Genesis 3:10”.

Revelation 3:20 reads: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If any man hear my voice, and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with me.” Genesis 3:10 reads: “And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked.”

Parkland needed a dog!

Hoboduke Nonsense

Read the article posted by The Sun Sentinel on February 23, 2018 in regard to the Sheriff deputies waiting outside of the school.  My family loves dogs, and we have raised our sons with dogs around them.  I offer this observation.  A dog inside the school would have offered more resistance and protection from the killer, then the deputies waiting outside until the shooting stopped.  A dog will not wait to observe and ponder what is the best course of action if there is an intruder or attacker threatening anyone.  A dog will bark like hell, and attack.  It is instinctive and they are a gift from God to help protect us.

There are certain breeds of dogs that offer unique skills and attributes.  I do not know the breeding or skills of the deputies who waited outside during the carnage inside.  I do know that a dog will die…

On Active Shooters and Risk Management

Gun Culture 2.0

In my Introduction to Sociology class we usually read an excerpt from the late, great Peter Berger’s book, Invitation to Sociology. I literally do a call and response with the students to highlight Berger’s fundamental view of the sociological perspective.

Me (quoting Berger): “It can be said that the first wisdom of sociology is this–“

Students (responding, quoting Berger): “things are not what they seem.”

Things are not what they seem. For this reason, I am naturally skeptical of any simple answers to complex questions like how to address active shooter situations.

Especially when I cannot formulate them myself, I like complex answers to these questions by people who bring professional expertise in risk management to the table. People like A.C. Haskins, whose work on guns and risk I have re-posted before.

Below please find Haskins’s thoughts on active shooters and risk management, posted with permission and my appreciation.

Watch: African Ambassador Hector Posset Has Some Words for Dead African Slaves That Will Stun You…

Trigger Reset

Hector Posset, the ambassador of the Republic of Benin, cracked the seal on a bottle of gin as we neared the wreck.

Travelling aboard my boat, we had come up the Spanish River, through its confluence with the Mobile River to 12 Mile Island, following the exact path that the Clotilda, the last American slave ship, used to smuggle the final 110 slaves brought in bondage from Africa to the United States.

Posset arrived in Mobile two days after news broke that a burnt ship the size and age of the Clotilda had been found in the Mobile-Tensaw Delta, the swamp where the captain claimed he set it afire in 1860. In a previous article, I relied on historical evidence and analysis by archaeologists to suggest that the 19th century wreck I found might be the Clotilda, which was burned after it arrived here with a last load of slaves…

Florida Students Fail To Convince

The Lone Cactus

I feel sorry for those kids that lost their friends and teachers in Broward County. That is a tragedy no one, regardless of age should have to go through. It has to be extremely difficult to go through something like that as a teenager, and I really do empathize with them.

But rather than try to heal from the tragedy, several of the students have allowed the leftists in this country, who absolutely detest the Second Amendment, to try and use them as pawns to achieve their goal of ridding the Second Amendment from the Constitution. It didn’t work, much to the angst of the students, who really don’t know any better.

The students, in just a week mind you, hired busses, packed lunches, got their fellow students organized, and went to Tallahassee, Florida’s state capital, to persuade legislators there to consider outlawing AR-15’s and other automatic weapons. They pleaded…

Skip to comments. Broward Co. sheriff: Armed officer at school never went into building during shooting The Hill ^ Posted on 2/22/2018, 5:47:39 PM by ameribbean expat JUST IN: Broward Sheriff says armed school resource deputy who was on duty at Stoneman Douglas the day of the shooting has been suspended without pay pending investigation; Sheriff Israel says the deputy opted to resign/retire.

Though the word “Cowardice” is always on the tip of my tongue, in his defense, there is stipulation that if an officer knows or has reasonable cause to believe that his own life is in danger, he does not have to take an action via direct intervention. He is compelled, to observe and report same.
I do not agree with it most of the time, but I cannot control what is on the mind of any particular person in the face of armed conflict. What bothered most people about me is that I remain calm under extreme stress to the point that other cops commented that I have ice water in my veins. Not everyone has that ability.

The Useless Age Limit Gun Push

The Tactical Hermit

The gun prohibitionists have found a new way to ‘slice the onion’. Age restrictions on gun purchases.

It’s a gimmick that sounds like it makes sense. We have age restrictions on all sorts of products. Why not guns? Aren’t they deadlier than beers? Didn’t we just have a lethal school shooting by a 19-year-old?

Except that one is a civil right and the other isn’t.

Also most mass shootings aren’t carried out by teenagers. Most school shootings are. But that’s because the people most likely to target schools are current or former students who are probably under 21. If you raised the age restriction to 30, you could cover a lot of mass shooters, including Omar Mateen, the Muslim terrorist who shot 49 people at the Pulse nightclub, but not Stephen Paddock in Vegas.

Before we Arm Teachers and Staff How About We Repeal Gun Free School Zones First?

The Tactical Hermit

In response to President Trumps Memo to direct the Attorney General to seek comments regarding the banning of “Bump Stocks”, the President of Gun Owners of America, Erich Pratt, issued this Response.

The response was also significant in that Mr. Pratt also made this remark, which now weighs heavily in the public discourse seeing that the President has stated he is open to the arming of teachers and staff in our schools.

“While Trump ran as a pro-gun candidate, this action does not appear to line up with his campaign rhetoric. Instead of further restricting the right to keep and bear arms, Trump should urge Congress to pass H.R. 34, which would repeal gun-free school zones, an issue Trump campaigned on.

This bill would also repeal the ludicrous law of gun free zones on military bases.

(KNOW YOUR ENEMY!) – Student Emma Gonzalez is dumbfounded when Dana Loesch explains NICS reporting guidelines

Very childish. I can fire almost any semi-auto as if it were full auto. I also know how to do conversions if I wanted to. The difference is that unless an absolute emergency, a line is drawn.
Children do not understand this. They only know what they think they know because a teacher or somebody else they trust, put it in their heads.
At the end of the day, the Second Amendment stands, however the NRA and the president are looking to bastardize 2A further, when other issues go unanswered such as pharma knowingly puts out brain bending drugs while contributing to gun control groups.
I AM GLAD THAT I RESIGNED FROM THE NRA.

What is an Empirical Social Scientist to Do in the Wake of a Mass Murder?

The way that one handles situations such as mass shootings, is that separation from the emotional state must be made, and clinic detachment inserted.
If we allow ourselves to become emotionally distraught, it will result in herd mentality. During my lifetime, I cannot place a number on what I have seen firsthand. It started with hunting with my father, then military, followed by employment in a slaughterhouse, and after that, on the streets as a cop. It bothers some people that I have the ability to detach emotionally, but someone must apply reason and logic at some point to get the job done or get through a bad situation. Only three funerals bothered me. My father’s, who was a real beloved guy from the WW2 generation. One of my brothers, he left behind babies, two weeks after his 41st birthday. My dog. He was like a son to me.

Gun Culture 2.0

I had a difficult but illuminating interaction recently with a scholar who I like and whose work I appreciate. He posted a comment on Twitter in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting that I didn’t think reflected his best sociological imagination with respect to guns and violence. I responded by saying so. He did not appreciate me responding. Why? Because he was not looking to have a discussion or debate about what he said. He was just expressing an emotional response.

Re-reading what he wrote, I should have recognized this. He wrote “I never wanna hear anything about…” This is literally a true statement. He did not want to hear anything about it.

Moreover, it is probably the case that as a person in emotional distress in the wake of a mass murder at a school, he COULD NOT hear anything about it. He was literally unable to…
