I believe she was told by a Gypsy that if she finished the house it would be haunted by the ghosts of those slain with a Winchester rifle…so she never finished it by having carpenters constantly doing some sort of “make-work” projects. Probably most of those shot by her husbands rifle needed shootin’, so she probably would have been fine….
