Man this so annoys me.
The illusion that the woods will be your salvation.
That hoofing out is the answer.
I had a couple of ex-spurts try and convince me of that during a talk I was giving.
So I asked them a simple question.
Many will die if they try to hoof it into the boon-docks.
Hypothermia, hyperthermia (heat stress) if too hot, bad water, little food, no meds, poor cover, bugs and really peed off wildlife, and the dangers of a couple of thousand others all after the one jack rabbit that dares to show it’s ears.
So is that your (the ex-spurts) grand plan?
To resupply from all that abandoned kit just lying around.
They didn’t like that one.
Then I asked them:-
What actually are YOUR PERSONAL plans to bug out on foot in a hot CBRN scenario or your plans if a CBRN event occurs DURING your ‘on foot’ bug out?
They left. Must have been something I said.
Once you are out in the open you are so vulnerable to all sorts of things your mother (aka the ex-spurts) has neglected to tell you about and ‘weekend camping’ and ‘do more PT’ can’t possibly have prepared you for.
Many parts of the nation believe it will be too hostile to remain, or areas such as cities as Obama remarked will be cut off and starved into submission. I’m too old for that. Used to run 12 miles a day. No more. One of my children runs the NYC Marathon and other marathons around the nation. I will stay and if necessary fight it out, but would rather evade and re-enter via the ocean. If it ever comes to that, I’m done for.
People believe that I am somewhat crazy.
A few clowns who thought they were some sort of movie commando character, when I tell them what it takes to go mano-a-mano, as I have done several times, they turn pale and remove themselves from my presence. Big knives and camouflage pants, only goes so far. Terrible thing is, it is mostly fresh in my mind. It never faded, and when it does, it always returns.
True. The wives, bear the brunt of the freight carried. Hot steamy August nights, rain that feels like tepid tea water. Lightening, thunder. I awake from sleep reaching for the M60, because I know, a rocket attack will happen. Two years, I have had some peace. This past week is another story.

Two things are on your side.
Age and experience.
That experience is still there and I presume practices often.
As for age, when you can’t run (which I can’t either) then restraint gets turned off.
There is nothing more dangerous than someone who has nothing to lose by standing their ground.

Practice? I live it, daily. The only thing that has changed is my thinking these past few years, and has become somewhat vicious and acerbic.

The benefit of age, no B.S.

Unfortunately I concur, it returns.
Even more unfortunately SWMBO knows that too.
